BC Thatchers is a hands-on thatching company serving Cape Town and the Western Cape. We build, re-thatch and repair thatch roofs the traditional way: hand-laid Cape reed, the right pitch, proper ridging and fire compliance sorted from day one.

Thatch is a craft, not a quick job. Every roof we build is hand-laid with graded Cape reed, set at the correct pitch and finished with proper ridging so it sheds Cape Town’s wind and winter rain the way a thatch roof should.
Whether it’s a new lapa for the garden, a full re-thatch on a family home, or a repair before the rains, the same crew does the work from the first day to the last: no subcontracting, and no surprises halfway up the roof.
We keep the team small on purpose. It means every roof gets our full attention, every quote is itemised so you can see exactly what you’re paying for, and there’s always someone who knows your roof when you call.
Fire compliance, insurance certificates and the paperwork your plans or HOA need are all handled up front, so your build never stalls waiting on documents.
Correct pitch, correct reed grade, correct thickness. Shortcuts on a thatch roof always come back: usually in the first winter.
If a repair will keep your roof going for years, we’ll tell you that: instead of selling you a re-thatch you don’t need yet.
Your roof is built by BC Thatchers thatchers, trained in-house on our own sites: never handed off to a crew we’ve never worked with.
Interiors sheeted, pools and paving protected, and the site swept every evening: so you can carry on living in the house while we work.
We take on thatching work throughout Cape Town and the wider Western Cape: homes, guest lodges, restaurants and garden lapas alike. Tell us where your roof is and we’ll let you know when we can come out to take a look, free of charge.
